In November 2018, we teamed up with BioWise to project manage a month long invasive alien plant clearing project on the Salt River in Knysna.
The project involved not only cutting and removing biomass from the river, but some initial ‘closed loop economy’ thinking- How could we turn the waste products from the clearing into potential small enterprise opportunities? Although this was just a trial project, there was significant income opportunities, especially for the fire wood companies that got the benefit of free wood. Ideally we would be upycycling the woodchips by composting them, either in situ or off sight. For more detailed information about the project, take a look at our blog post here
